Speaker: Greg Brown of Crowe Horwath
Vance Richardson of Prism Electric
Topic: Suicide Prevention
As the construction industry is #1 in number of suicides and #2 in the suicide rate, it is important to be aware of the importance of suicide prevention. As such, it is an industry imperative to shatter the mental health stigma and create caring cultures within our companies. This interactive session will provide attendees with the knowledge and resources available to build a policy and culture within their organization to help address this important issue.
During the session, Vance Richardson, HR Manager from Prism, will share two unfortunate incidents that affected their organization. Vance will discuss how Prism addressed these situations, steps taken, and what was learned to help train and build awareness to contractors. In addition, Vance will be sharing advice to others on how to address mental illness in the workplace. The CFMA has also been active in suicide prevention awareness and has established the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, with the goal of providing and disseminating information and resources for suicide prevention and mental health promotion in construction. Greg Brown, Sr. Manager at Crowe Horwath and Vice President of the DFW CFMA Chapter, will cover topics as to why we are here, what we can do, and resources available to your organization. At the end of the presentation, we hope you will leave with a better understanding of the importance of this topic within the industry and prevention strategies to apply within your organization.
