Description: According to the Centers for Disease Prevention, construction occupations have the highest rate of suicide, as well as the highest number of suicides across all occupational groups. To combat these statistics, contractors, unions, associations, industry service providers and project owners must work together to STAND up for suicide prevention. The January meeting is a chance for participants to gain the following:
- Understand the CFMA’s involvement with suicide prevention and mental awareness
- Hear real life stories regarding mental health and suicide, along with lessons learned
- Understand the looming health and safety issues mental health and suicide are having on the construction industry
- Know where to find tools and resources to assist your company in STANDing up for suicide prevention
Bios:
David L. Sauerman
Dave Sauerman is a Managing Director for the Construction & Engineering Division at CIBC Bank USA (f/k/a PrivateBank). Dave has spent 35 of his 39 years in banking working exclusively with clients in the construction and engineering industries. Prior to joining The PrivateBank in 2007, Dave was the Division Head of LaSalle Bank’s Construction & Engineering Division. Prior to LaSalle, Dave spent 13 years with Harris Bank and 4 years with Liberty National Bank.
Dave has been an active member, speaker and author for The Construction Financial Management Association, The Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association, The American Subcontractors Association and The Illinois CPA Society’s Construction Contracting Committee.
Dave has been an active CFMA member since 1985 and has twice served as Chair of the Publications Committee, the Executive Committee and is currently Vice Chair of the Suicide Prevention Committee. In 2019, Dave was awarded CFMA’s Debra Hahn Memorial Award for his service to the organization and its members.

Greg has over 14 years of experience working for construction industry clients. His expertise helping clients evaluate and implement industry best practices has helped improve profitability of the clients he serves. He is active in the national and local chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA). He is the Past President and Board Member of his local chapter (Dallas/Ft. Worth) and Past Chair of the National Heavy Highway Committee for the CFMA national chapter.
